Young people in the East Midlands will soon be getting extra help and support to start a career in the railway.
The railway supports thousands of jobs in the East Midlands and the Young Rail Professionals East Midlands Steering Committee aims to encourage more young people to work within the rail industry as well as helping local businesses to identify and nurture the next generation of talent.
The Steering Group’s launch event takes place this evening (Thursday 30th October) at The Roundhouse, near Derby station. It includes a number of presentations from young people currently working in the rail industry and will also give students and new recruits the chance to meet others and find out more.
Young Rail Professionals (YRP), founded in 2009, brings together young people from across the UK railway industry, covering all aspects of the industry from engineering and planning to train design, regulation and marketing.
For people starting out in their career, Young Rail Professionals provides networking and professional development opportunities to enhance and inspire members. For those in education, Young Rail Professionals run a Rail Ambassadors programme, providing opportunities to its members to visit schools, colleges and universities to attract the next generation into this dynamic industry.
YRP have been extremely successful in the South and in light of this success a new steering committee for the East Midlands Region of the YRP has been established and will be supported by East Midlands Trains.
